Connecticut is the only state in the nation that doesn’t require licensing for estheticians, eyelash technicians and nail technicians, but a new bill would introduce such a requirement. The bill’s sponsor cited injury to consumers, businesses having a difficult time finding talent, and human trafficking at salons as justifications, but under closer scrutiny such arguments don’t point to licensing specifically as a solution.
Arizona Governor Doug Ducey called for universal licensing in his State of the State Address. This would allow anyone licensed in another state to become automatically licensed after moving to the Grand Canyon State.

Michigan does away with painters license.
Idaho governor Brad Little issues his first executive order of 2019. It is in compliance with the 2017 Licensing Freedom Act, and would require the annual review of no fewer than five professions to determine if licensing is necessary, and lists considerations that must be made when proposing a new occupational license or regulation.
While 20% of Americans live in rural areas, only 2% of lawyers practice there, creating a serious shortage of legal services in these areas. Virtual practice may be part of the solution, but a closer reexamination of licensing requirements is also merited.

The number of nurse practitioners in the U.S. exceeds 270,000. Over 95% of them had graduate degrees, and almost 18% had a doctorate.
