Due to a failure to pass a teaching licensing exam on the part of many teachers, Jackson Public School District in Mississippi, which faces a teacher shortage, is down 240 teachers. Some may return as substitutes, but with a substantial pay cut.

An Ohio bill to grant licensing reciprocity for military spouses licensed in another state just passed the house and heads to the senate.

Vittorio Natasi of Reason Foundation makes the case that removing “good moral character” requirements and other restrictions on ex-cons becoming licensed helps reduce recidivism.

Governor Greg Abbott has come to the rescue of licensed plumbers in Texas by issuing a proclamation under the Texas Disaster Act of 1975, which would delay the expiration of the licensing board.

Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak signed a law that would prohibit the denial of an occupational license based on immigration status.

A new bill in Tennessee would create an occupational license for art therapists.

Some good news: in a tight labor market, many ex-cons are able to become employed. But restrictions on ex-cons from becoming licensed could stand in the way of that.
